The CaSTLE Project is transforming leadership formation with the launch of Called by the Holy Spirit, a competency-based program designed specifically for Synod Authorized Ministers (S.A.M.s).
Recognizing that S.A.M.s fulfill a unique calling distinct from traditional MDiv or TEEM paths, we collaborated with our synod partners to build a curriculum that meets their specific needs. We believe true congregational hope thrives when leaders—rooted in baptismal ecclesiology—are equipped to activate the baptismal identities of every member.
In January 2026, a select pilot cohort from the Northwest Intermountain, Northwest Wisconsin, Central/Southern Illinois, Nebraska, and Northwestern Minnesota Synods will embark on this intensive journey. Our approach moves beyond traditional lecturing to deliver measurable results by integrating Lutheran baptismal theology with hands-on ministerial practice and critical reflection. Over 32 sessions across one academic year, students master eight core modules through a model of competency-based growth. This rigorous path ensures graduates emerge ready to exercise authentic, high-impact leadership specifically tailored to the unique needs of rural and small-town ministerial contexts. By prioritizing practical competency, we are equipping leaders with the tools to spark renewal and sustain vibrant ministry in the communities that need it most.
