Partner Resource Highlight: Walking Wet, A Lenten Series on Baptismal Promises

The CaSTLE Project is grateful to highlight Walking Wet as a partner-created resource for congregations and ministry leaders preparing for Lent 2026. Developed collaboratively by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod and the Virginia Synod, Walking Wet is a thoughtfully designed Lenten series rooted in the promises made at baptism.

Rather than treating baptism as a one-time moment, this series invites communities to experience baptism as an ongoing reality. The five baptismal promises are presented as daily practices that continue to drench us in God’s grace, shaping how we live as children of God in the world.

Designed to begin on Ash Wednesday and continue through the season of Lent, Walking Wet offers weekly resources for worship, study, and lived discipleship. Each week centers on one baptismal promise and includes three integrated sections:

Worship
Each week provides a primary scripture text suitable for a midweek Lenten service or Sunday sermon series, a weekly prayer that can be used in worship or at Lenten meals, and three preaching prompts to support proclamation and reflection.

Engaging the Story and Exploring the Promise
This section includes reflection questions for Bible study or small group discussion, an invitation to engage the Small Catechism, and additional biblical and theological resources drawn from Enter the Bible at Luther Seminary.

Living Out Your Baptismal Promises
Here the series moves into daily life, offering discussion starters for meals or home reflection, a weekly watchword to guide prayer and contemplation, a diaconal image to frame the promise, a children’s book recommendation for worship or home use, and suggested daily practices to help individuals embody each promise throughout the week.

As a partner resource, Walking Wet aligns closely with CaSTLE’s commitment to lived ecclesiology, practical theology, and faith rooted in everyday contexts. It is especially well-suited for congregations seeking a flexible, theologically grounded, and practice-oriented approach to Lent.
